Toro y Moi x Ray Concepcion + 3D glasses

The sunshine of my Plamoybil farm life.

My gorgeous bride left this message for me last night.  Or my daughter.  Or both of us.  Probably my daughter.

One thing, before all other things: Peter likes his valentine.

He showed me these things called “Wookies”

A short, amusing video of David Lynch discussing his near brush with directing Revenge of the Jedi.

Interesting to note: he went on to direct Dune instead, taking the reigns over from the failed production that was to be directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky in collaboration with Salvador Dali, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine and Mick Jagger, with art direction by Moebius and H.R. Giger and music by Pink Floyd.  Can you imagine the amazing alternate reality out there where David Lynch directed Return of the Jedi and Jodorowsky, Dali, Giger and Pink Floyd made Dune?  I think it would be slightly better than this reality . . .

Steve Hodges Remembers Fox Bat Strategy

Picture 32

A very interesting mini-doc on the making of the music for middle period David Lynch and the band Fox Bat Strategy.  Features interviews with David Lynch himself as well as insight into his role as a part of the band behind the boards.

The image above links through to the video.

from the director’s chair: tolay fall festival

The lighting, setting and company at the Tolay Fall Festival this last weekend inspired me to create this short.

cult classic: how crayons are made

This old segment produced for Sesame Street has always been a favorite—and an early influence on my aesthetics and filmmaking.

from the director’s chair: spring lake, summer/fall

on possibly the last warm weekend of the year, we took the bicycles up to Spring Lake Park and spent a lazy afternoon riding around.  I put together this piece based around a song my daughter improvised to try and convince me to “be a dog.”

new favorite video: royksopp + fever ray “this must be it”

Picture 21

both these artists are well-loved here, so it’s a bit of a no brainer. that said, the sheer originality and quality of craftmanship displayed here would be enough alone—blanket it in an amazing song, and you have my new favorite video.

coming soon: coen bros’ “a serious man”

An excellent-looking trailer for an excellent-looking film. I love Joel and Ethan . . .

coming soon: god help the girl

This is the best Belle + Sebastian song I’ve heard in a long time and it’s not even really a Belle + Sebastian song.  It’s from Stuart Murdoch‘s new project God Help The Girl—a forthcoming musical film and soundtrack featuring amateur contest winners.

There’s also this wonderful video:

new favorite video: fleet foxes “mykonos”

I think it’s fairly well-documented that Fleet Foxes is well-loved in our household. Well, if they hadn’t been, this video would’ve sealed the deal. I’m one part delighted by it and one part upset I didn’t make it myself.

Here’s the “making of” video.
