yours truly // Memoryhouse : “When You Sleep”

Yours Truly captured Memoryhouse covering one of MBV’s greatest.  It’s funny how it takes a stripped-down cover to show that under all the noise and white fuzz and tape warble and guitar effects, My Bloody Valentine wrote incredibly beautiful songs.  Plain and simple.

Obviously, my feelings for this band go way beyond “like.”  These two new songs from their forthcoming album just send my love further into the cosmos . . . !

coming soon // Wolf Parade : “Expo 86”

Expo 86 was a World’s Fair that happened in Vancouver in 1986. It’s been this thing we all talked about as a band. We all grew up in British Columbia, and we were all at Expo, which lasted about three or four days. It’s a weird little thought experiment– basically, we were all young children at the same big event. I remember Expo 86 was as big as the Olympics were this year in Vancouver. They completely reorganized part of the downtown core, and they built this giant geodesic dome called “Science World”. Now it looks completely, totally dated and a product of its time. They built monuments, built rides. It was something I don’t think we’re going to see in Canada ever again because World’s Fairs have fallen out of favor, at least for the Western World.” : Dan Boeckner [via Pitchfork]

25 favorite albums

These are albums I love listening to from beginning to end and have a magical appeal no matter the time, place or mood. These are not necessarily the albums I respect the most. In other words: this is a list of what I consider to be my favorite albums—but not, in all cases, what I consider to be the best albums. I’ve listed them in chronological order of discovery (I guess I didn’t discover anything good during college years: 1995-1998.)

01 beatles_abbey-road abbey road the beatles [part of my earliest musical memories—thank you Mom]
All time favorite. The second side of the album is my favorite 22 minutes of popular music recorded.

02 thriller-michael-jackson thriller michael jackson [Dixon 1982, age 5]
Do I need to explain anything? Even if the only song on the album was Wanna Be Startin’ Something, this would be one of my five favorite albums.
