Crystal Stilts were all like, “hey let’s dress up like Velvet Underground circa 1960-something-or-other and then play some music that sounds like Joy Division circa Warsaw-era and then let’s throw them a left hook by breaking out into this face-melting-reverbed-harmonica-mind-jam that sounds like Clinic ate a Roxy Music album and then spewed it out their nostrils in a rainbow hallucination and then we know for sure that Peter will really like it.”
Yah, basically it was the reverb harmonica that won Peter over. Quickly.
Creators of one of my all-time favorite albums ever and apparently Stuart Davis fans, Clinic are coming out with a new album. I have to say the new sound is a bit invigorating . . .
Terrorism, war, recession . . . whatever. This was a terrific decade for music. These were the albums that gripped me and never let go and remain head-and-shoulders above the rest.
These are albums I love listening to from beginning to end and have a magical appeal no matter the time, place or mood. These are not necessarily the albums I respect the most. In other words: this is a list of what I consider to be my favorite albums—but not, in all cases, what I consider to be the best albums. I’ve listed them in chronological order of discovery (I guess I didn’t discover anything good during college years: 1995-1998.)
01 abbey road the beatles [part of my earliest musical memories—thank you Mom] All time favorite. The second side of the album is my favorite 22 minutes of popular music recorded.
02 thriller michael jackson [Dixon 1982, age 5] Do I need to explain anything? Even if the only song on the album was Wanna Be Startin’ Something, this would be one of my five favorite albums.
