video // John Maus : “Believer”
Professor Maus never quits with the killer jams. This is like listening to Echo & The Bunnymen playing from a hilltop through heavy fog.

new favorite musician // When Saints Go Machine
Danish mysteriousness crossed with a fresh update on the soft new romantic sound developed by bands like Talk Talk and Tears for Fears make Peter really like this new band from Denmark—When Saints Go Machine.
the Mexican Morrissey // new video : Twin Shadow : “At My Heels”
Enjoy the insightful director’s commentary covering such topics as the blogosphere and a special effects technique known as “twin shadowing” . . .
listen party // Dirty Beaches : “Badlands”
Spinner is streaming the forthcoming Dirty Beaches album in its entirety here.
new video // Fleet Foxes : “Grown Ocean”
Pretty impressive song and video by one of the favorites around these parts—Fleet Foxes.
video // Young Dreams : “Young Dreams”
Peter likes this Young Dreams song. Peter really likes this video. Peter really, really likes this house.
Peter wants to take a floor nap in the sun . . .
the Wavves that never quite was
Peter really liked the direction Nathan was going with Wavves when he was jamming with Zach Hill, but was surprised nothing ever seemed to come of it—instead scrapping the project to make the utterly lovable King of the Beach album.
His beachy highness, though, did just share some more tracks from those Zach Hill sessions—they don’t have quite the same elegance as the jams on King of the Beach, but did we fall in love with Wavves for elegance?
new song // Fleet Foxes : “Battery Kinzie”
Sounding more and more like Simon and Garfunkel (which, in hindsight, also makes their other song released from this album sound more like S&G and less like CSN&Y.) And that’s not a bad thing. Peter likes it.
Fleet Foxes // Helplessness Blues : Battery Kinzie :
Wolfram x Hercules and Love Affair
A rare case of a remix being as good or better than the original.
Hercules & Love Affair // Blue Songs : Painted Eyes [Wolfram remix] :
new song // Ford & Lopatin : “Emergency Room”
The artists formerly known as Games—whose ep “People Play” was one of Peter’s most-liked eps 2010—now go by the more straightforward Ford & Lopatin (their last names) moniker. And they’re released their first single under this handle: Emergency Room.
It’s incredible!

new videos // Puro Instinct : “Stilyagi” + “Silky Eyes”
Puro Instinct // Headbangers in Ecstasy : Stilyagi
Vodpod videos no longer available.Puro Instinct // Headbangers in Ecstasy : Silky Eyes
from the rooftop // don’t look down : Kurt Vile
A fairly subdued, but nevertheless compelling, performance by Peter’s latest obsession—Kurt Vile—on some NYC rooftop.

favorite new musician // Craft Spells
Peter has trouble not liking any band that perfectly encapsulates late 80s brit pop—especially when it’s drowning in a hypnagogic sheen and it soundtracks a video of someone riding a bike.
Craft Spells // Party Talk :
Craft Spells // After the Moment :
yourstru.ly x Miniature Tigers = prismatastic
yourstru.ly captured this performance by Miniature Tigers in a perfectly prismatic setting.
new favorite musician // Keep Shelley in Athens
Peter likes this new sound coming out of Greece being made by Keep Shelly in Athens.
Keep Shelly in Athens // Song to Cheer You Up :
Keep Shelly in Athens // Running Out of You :
Keep Shelly in Athens // Fokionos Negri Street :
Keep Shelly in Athens // Hauntin’ Me :
new song // Fleet Foxes : “Helplessness Blues”
And they’re back—and as gorgeous as ever. Peter really likes the lyrics to this song—expresses a lot of feelings he’s been having lately. Is Robin Pecknold the Paul Simon of our generation? Sounding a lot like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, too . . .
Fleet Foxes // Helplessness Blues : Helplessness Blues :
Ray Concepcion x Ponytail
Peter really likes when Mr. Concepcion creates such a super duper video featuring a band Peter really likes. Ponytail is so bright we need to wear shades . . .
new video // Vivian Girls : “I Heard You Say”
Vivian Girls // I Heard You Say
new favorite artist // Autre ne Veut
Peter likes this white boy soul sandwiched between reverb and noisy samples. Some serious subterranean hypercolorisms.
Autre ne Veut // Two Days of Rain :
Chocolate Bobka captured the sound in raw, grainy, flourescent, goodness:
John Maus // “And the Rain” + “Do Your Best”
Just learning about this professor of philosophy who creates music that rivals Ariel Pink‘s in its ability to sound like an old casette and a future transmission from deep space while never losing it’s pop core.
